What to do on the North Fork over the Fourth of July weekend

Quite possibly the highlight of the summer is happening this weekend — the Fourth of July. We’ve already told you about all the fireworks shows and events happening around Long Island, but here’s some more things planned for this weekend.

Kick off the weekend with a movie at First and South Summer Camp

Friday, July 2nd, 8:30 p.m., $30 to reserve a picnic table for 2-4 people

Watch a summer classic, Jaws, in the open air while munching on some popcorn and candy (included with your ticket). The bar will be open and stay open until the credits roll. For more info, visit their website.

Enjoy rides, games and fireworks at the Greenport carnival

Wednesday, June 30 to Sunday, July 4, 6 p.m.-11 p.m., at the Polo Grounds on Moore’s Lane

After taking 2020 off, the Greenport Fireman’s Department will be hosting its 49th annual carnival all weekend. Admission is free, with extra charges for rides and games. There will be fireworks displays on Friday, July 2 and on July 4 at 10 p.m. 

Attend an Independence Day Ceremony and Celebration

Saturday, July 3rd, 10 a.m., the Gazebo on Main Rd.

Hosted by the Greater Jamesport Civic Association, this celebration will have color guard, guest speakers, patriotic music and an invocation. For more information, visit their website

Shop at a Fourth of July block party

Saturday, July 3rd, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tanger Outlets

If you’re in the Riverhead area, make your way over to Tanger Outlets for tons of giveaways, mini golf and sales. For more info, visit their website.

Grab at bite from the Treatery Food Truck on Love Lane

Saturday, July 3rd, Mattituck Florist

Get something sweet, like cookies or gelato, or go for their newer savory options, a lobster roll or charcuterie box. Follow their stories on Instagram to get the latest details on timing and their menu.

Enjoy live music and a night sky tour

Saturday, July 3rd, 8:30 p.m., Custer Institute and Observatory. $20 adults, kids 16 and under free

Be serenaded by the sweet tunes of Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks before a guided tour of the night sky, weather permitting. Staff will show you the stars through their telescopes and the observation dome. For more info, visit their website

See fireworks at Riverhead Raceway

Saturday, July 3rd, Riverhead Raceway

If you’re still looking for somewhere to watch some Independence Day fireworks, the Raceway will be hosting theirs at 9:30 p.m. after a day of family fun with stock races, kids big wheel races and a demo derby. For more info, visit their website.

Watch the 2nd Annual New Suffolk Boat Parade

Sunday, July 4th, 11 a.m., New Suffolk Beach

Set up a chair and pack a cooler because on Sunday, you’ll get to see a whole parade of beautiful boats cruise right past New Suffolk Beach. You can watch from the beach or the Steamboat Wharf. And if you’ve got a boat you want to show off, sign up to be in the parade by emailing NSboatparade@yahoo.com with the boat name, captain and crew. For more info, visit their website

Celebrate Berry Weekends at Garden of Eve

Starts Sunday, July 4th, runs every weekend through July 19th, Admission $10 per person, $4 per ½ pint container

With the start of July, it’s all about blueberries. Pick some fresh ones, try their blueberry-themed foods and ice cream and ride around the farm on a hay ride at Garden of Eve. They also have their Kart Track and farm animals. For more information, visit their website.

Ride in the Southold Village Merchants Fourth of July Parade 

Sunday, July 4th, 12 p.m.

This annual event happening for its 23rd year is a parade complete with floats. It will run along Main street from Boisseau Avenue to Tucker’s Lane. Children are invited to ride the floats or decorate their bikes and ride along in the parade. For more info, call 631-765-4100.

Pick up some fancy food truck eats

Sunday, July 4th, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

With a special menu for the weekend, the food truck at North Fork Table and Inn will have extended hours on Independence day and a special menu. Think baby back ribs, spiced fried chicken, watermelon greek salad, olive oil sponge cake and so much more. You can even order ahead for pick up from now until Friday, July 2nd and pickup on July 4th between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, visit their website
